Cadence: I am using Roc’s Retinol night cream and could be happier with it. I first bought when I was on a buisness trip in Paris about 3 years ago and I am so happy we can now buy it here even at the drug store. I just like the way it makes my skin feel, very smooth. I don’t have much wrinkles yet I am only 32 but I hope it will prevent them from coming to soon. I also believe that alcohol makes woman age tremendously so I don’t drink any more and I don’t smoke either.

Janette: The Age Diminishing Moisturizing Night Creme by Roc seemed like it would help with the thin, papery skin around my eyes, but this didn’t do a thing after 2 mos. of use. the only thing it did was irritate my eyes and (sorry to be gross) cause more discharge and goo in my eyes in the morning. not recommended.

Olivia: The deep wrinkle serum from Roc is just ridiculous in my opinion. No result after 4, 8 or 12 weeks!!! They need to stop lying to us or I need to start reading reviews, getting tired of spending money on creams.

Rita: Here’s what I’m sad about. RoC says you should start using their Retinol cream when you’re in your late 20’s, early 30’s. Well, who knew that? I’m in my early 50’s and think that is not going to work for me because I haven’t been using it for the last 20 years! This seems to be a bad ad pitch to me. Not going to bother…I’m too old!

leah: The Roc Hydra + 3 in 1 Cleaning care caused me to get pimples and dry flaky patches on my face. Not a good look, and it felt icky too.

leslie: The Retinol Cleansing Lotion from Roc was just about the worst cleanser ever. left a sticky residue that was almost impossible to rinse off…made my face feel grimy throughout the day. and clogged my pores resultiing in disgusting white heads. no thank you..not sure i trust Roc anymore.

Rebecca: I liked Roc okay when they had a few creams for moisture, SPF and anti-wrinkle creams. Now, it’s becoming out of control with their LIft line, I have to admit I was curious so I tried the Fortify Lift and Define Night Cream and they didn’t do anything at all!

Li: I started using deep wrinkle night and eye creams 4 days ago. So far, I see that the retinol does effectively dry out dead surface skin cells, making the skin look worse at first and then better when it peels off, leaving the shiny and rosier appearance of the cells that are newly exposed. This is the effect I hoped for (from the deep wrinkle cream). I think it might be effective to use it for a few days at a time and alternate with some cream that provides more moisture and protection. Ideas anyone? Also, the eye cream seems to amplify wrinkles around the eyes, especially under the eyes. Initial application of the cream gives a moisturizing and tightening effect but soon drying out which appears as wrinkling. Yikes! Another application replenishes moistures, smoothes wrinkling but cycles again into dry wrinkles. A vicious cycle I hoped I wouldn’t have to deal with. Again, more moisture seems a probable solution. But,with what, I am wondering. Any similar experiences and/or solutions to this problem?

cathryn: Hi Li, i had some of the same dilemmas as you with Roc dep wrinkle night & Eye creams….i never really satisfactorily resolved this issue. The drying and burning was just terrible for my sensitive skin. And even though the skin underneath looked pinker and more vulnerable, the WRINKLES were still there on MY face…did you wrinkles really go away? I mean the look of “new skin” is nice, but i wanted to eliminate the wrinkels too, and this just didn’t achieve that. I tried going back and forth between Roc and Bellaplex, which is a super soft anti-aging creme, but when I woujld go back to the Roc it would just burn my skin again and yes, almost empahsize the wrinkles! It was like traumatizing my skin and then pamering it then traumatiizing it again. So eventually i just quit the Roc, and stuck with the Bellaplex. And to my shock, the Bellaplex helped about a zillion times better than the Roc did. Rather than ripping my skin off, it plumped up the wrinkles with collagen. I’m addicted to that stuff now, for what its worth. Its my HG for sure. GOod LUCK!

Kathy: My older Dermatologist suggested the RoC Deep Wrinkle Cream…with follow-up. The first morning after useing it, it did look like my inder-eye wrinkles were less noticeable. Before, I used Chanel Precision Ultra correction Eye, which bothered my eyes a bit…but works well at plumping up the skin a bit (to help disguise the wrinkles) when I just use it in the morning around my eyes. This Dr. teaches at the University here, and I asked him what I could do about the wrinkles appearing around my eyes (I am 54).

Aubrey: I am 31, and have been trying a few RoC products on and off for a few years now. I first started using it in college, and really liked it. After an 8-year hiatus, I bought the eye cream in 2008, but noticed it would leave my eyes feeling burn*d and very sensitive after a few days’ use. Did the formula change, or my reaction to it?… I phased it out and tried the following again in 2009 and 2010: Corrective Action Eye Cream the same from 2008), RoC Deep Wrinkle Night Cream (and recently the Deep Wrinkle with SPF30 for AM) and Deep Wrinkle Eye Cream. After a few days, the pleasant moisturizing turns into tingling, which then turns into burn*ng and then dry bu*nt patches on my face and neck (esp. around my mouth). I thought to try to double up moisturizers (1 Roc, 1 not) to mellow the effects, which seemed to work. When I stopped that and went 100% RoC, the burn*ng would begin again. I don’t know if it’s actually good for my skin, for the pa*n and suffer*ng it causes! I wondered if I was the only one going through this cycle, and it seems I’m not. That doesn’t make me feel any better about it, knowing that other people have the same problems with their formulas. But if I have to ‘cut’ them with another cream, I’d rather just find something else that works by itself, rather than buy 2 creams to cancel the damag* of 1.

Michelle: Why has the SPF 15 been removed from the Retinox day cream , this is , and I stress a really important component of your product , especially with the South African Sun …Please , please advise

Julie: I’m 45 and never tried an anti-wrinkle cream before…my skin looks pretty good for my age, except around my eyes. I purchased RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum even though I don’t have deep wrinkes just fine lines. First I used it nightly for about 2 wks and didn’t see any results. Then about a month later tried it once at night by itself and once during the day with Cetaphil SPF 15 moisturizer over it. Every day the skin under my eyes got drier and drier until after a week, I woke up this morning and my under eye skin was more wrinkled. Since it b*rns a bit under my eyes I’m concerned that it’s doing some da*age, so I’m stopping use. I mean, it h*rts and I looked so much worse when I woke up this morning…I’ve been gently washing with Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizing with their moisturizer because they were recommended by my dermatologist as being gentle to reverse this facial injury. I just hope I haven’t done any permanent dam*age. Oh well, guess I should be happy with what was given to me naturally. Learned my lesson!

Ann: Very disappointed in the Roc Deep Wrinkle serum. Guess I should have did more in-depth research 1st. I do not have a lot of wrinkles yet, thought it would combat them along the way. Only to now see after over a week, red*ess, puff*ness and drying on my face….discontinuing the product and will not be purchasing any of the lines they offer.

KellyAnne: Wonderfully insightful comments ladies. I have just started (4 weeks) with the daily resurfacing disks cleanser and the deep wrinkle filler. I am thrilled with the results. I have very sensitive skin, so much so that I had to return the line of products I purchased from Olay. Red*ess after washing is nothing new to me and the disk cleansers are phenomenal with a delicate, pleasing scent.The Correxion deep filler is just as affordable and I truly believe is re-structuring my skin. I am so impressed I am looking into their other products without hesitation and look forward to using more of their regime. cj: i have been using Roc for many years -from age of 25- and ladies i can tell you one thing being a massive party girl and a heavy smoker for many many years over 35 now!!! i have hardly any wrinkles or lines and look around 29/30! we may give it to the gene or to roc pick and chose. but my advice ladies wait until you are 35 or over to use cream when the damage shows maybe you waited too long and should not expect miracles but i am a big fan of roc!!

Nance: The first few days, maybe 3 max, this felt great on my skin, however then the nightmare continued. I used this product for ONLY 6 days. On day 7, my skin felt as if it was on f*re. Today is day 8, the f*re has died down, but there are still “em*ers” in a few areas and I don’t have sensitive skin. I had used the “RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum.” I paid $20 bucks. EVOO would have been kinder.

RoC® is a French company that dubs itself as the skincare leader since 1957. It offers a line of dermatologists-designed skincare products, and it was founded by pharmacist Jean-Charles Lissarrague and a collaboration of dermatologists. However, the company seems to offer multiple products that are basically designed for the same purpose. We think it would have been better if they had come up with one, or maybe a couple of, specialized products containing only a blend of proven ingredients.

RoC® does offer specialized anti-wrinkle applications; however, these seem to be chiefly based on the alleged benefits of Retinol. We note that RoC® is not the only company that peddles Retinol-based skin creams. In this review, we shall take a closer look at what RoC® has to offer. We will determine whether its offerings may be worth consumers’ trust, investment and time, or if they may be nothing more than run-of-the-mill products that produce lackluster results.

The official website for RoC® categorizes its products into 3 sections: Anti-Wrinkle, Lift and Define and Multi Benefit. All of its anti-wrinkle products are based on Retinol. There are about 7 products made just for tackling wrinkles and other signs of aging, not to mention numerous other products under the other 2 categories. It seems as if one single task has been assigned per product. For example, there is a night cream, a day cream, a moisturizer with SPF, an eye cream and a cream for the hands.

 Products in Focus
Retinol is actually an animal form of Vitamin A, and it has been found crucial in vision and bone growth. Liver and eggs as well as carrots and spinach are said to be a good source of pro-Vitamin A Carotenoids. The body then utilizes these precursor forms to get ample amounts of Retinol. Therefore, eating the above-mentioned foods may be a good way to get Vitamin A. While Retinol is an important ingredient, we believe it is not sufficient by itself when it comes to reducing the visible signs of aging.

There has been proven and remarkable development in the high-tech beauty industry when it comes to finding ingredients that boost the body’s production of Collagen, an important protein that helps in skin renewal. For example, Matrixyl 3000®, which is a patented form of Palmitoyl Pentapeptide, has been proven and time-tested to reduce wrinkles formation in the short term, as well as long term. Unfortunately, even with the large number of products offered, such ingredients seem to be missing from RoC®’s Anti-Aging product line at this time.

The official website for RoC® has a nice appeal, but rather than being an exclusive product website with customer testimonials and before and after pictures, it is more directed towards promoting the company as a whole. The fact that the official website for RoC® markets numerous products may confuse a user, as it did us. However, the navigation is not as difficult as it may be for some other manufacturers we have come across.

 Final Thoughts
In the end, we could not overlook the fact that this company promotes so many different products that are all designed to perform one single task. The differences among several products seemed to be that they were supposed to work on different parts of the body. However, we believe that the best manufacturer actually promotes only a limited line of products. We also believe that it is not difficult to come up with a cream that covers all those tasks and still comes in one single tube or jar. Instead of paying for five different creams for five different parts of our body, it may be more practical, not to mention cost-effective and efficient to buy one product. We believe that such a cream may be much more appealing to consumers, especially if it contains proven ingredients.
